Why Gardeners Love Blue Fescue

Distinctive blue foliage: Fine, blue-gray blades provide contrast against green foliage, colorful flowers, and stone or gravel landscaping.

Compact ornamental texture: Its naturally tufted form makes it useful along borders, in rock gardens, and as an accent in containers.

Seasonal interest: Foliage provides texture through much of the growing season. Mature plants may produce delicate tan seed heads that add another layer of interest.

Water-wise landscaping: Once established in suitable, well-drained soil, Blue Fescue can tolerate relatively dry conditions. It still needs watering during establishment and prolonged dry spells.

Perennial garden value: In suitable climates and growing conditions, this ornamental grass returns over multiple growing seasons. Performance may vary with local climate, drainage, and seasonal conditions.

Growing and Care Instructions

Sunlight: Plant in a sunny location. Full sun generally helps maintain the characteristic blue color and a compact shape. Some light shade may be tolerated, but foliage can become less intensely colored.

Soil: Use well-draining soil. Avoid waterlogged locations, especially during cool or wet weather.

Watering: Water regularly while the plant establishes roots. Once established, water when needed based on rainfall, temperature, and soil moisture. Avoid keeping the root zone constantly wet.

Maintenance: Remove dead or damaged foliage as needed to keep the clump tidy. Trim away old seed heads if desired, taking care not to cut deeply into healthy foliage.

Placement ideas: Try it along garden edging, in rock gardens, beside stepping stones, in gravel landscapes, or in a container with contrasting foliage plants.

Important Plant Expectations

This listing is for one young starter plant, not a mature landscape-sized clump. Plant size, fullness, foliage color, and seed-head development can vary with growing conditions and season.

Although Blue Fescue is often considered drought tolerant after establishment, it is not maintenance-free. Good drainage and appropriate watering are important for long-term health.

Shipping and Arrival

Your order includes one well-rooted plant in its nursery pot, approximately 2.5 × 3.5 inches. Some variation in foliage fullness and color is normal for live plants.

After arrival, check the soil moisture and allow the plant to acclimate before gradually adjusting it to its final outdoor location.
